Aim of the Movement:
1. A Nation at Risk was a report intended to create a Sputnik-like crisis with the purpose of changing the course of education in America.
2. The goal of this movement was to not only create an intellectual and moral society that was prepared to take on the issues of our ever-changing world through a more rigorous education but also to produce more highly-qualified skilled workers.
3.Producing more skilled workers would also keep the United States ecomically competative with other industrialized nations.
Major Impact On Science Education:
The A Nation at Risk report recommended stricter graduation requirments which increased the number of years students must take science courses. These courses were to apply methods of inquiry and incorporate social
and environmental issues. The report also suggested a revision of the science curriuculum to make it more relevant to our everyday lives.
Long Term Contribution:
This report did not have as much of an impact as was intended but there were
some positive changes:

of Science, Social Studies and Math and 2 years of a foreign language for those attending college. - Teacher accountability was also brought to the forefront as the report discussed teacher
preparation, recruitment and retention. - A Nation at Risk also recommended adminstiring various standarized tests at major transition points throughout
a student's career.
